Myspace, Kodak, Circuit City, Enron, Blockbuster Video, what do all these companies have in common, apart from you may not have even heard of them? They're all either out of business or close to it. Blockbuster Video could have bought Netflix for next to nothing in 2006, but executives past. Now there's only one Blockbuster store left, Netflix is worth billions. Kodak invented digital photography in the 1970s, but executives were too scared to move away from traditional film. When was the last time you bought film? Never? There's no surprise Kodak is a hollow shell of the incredibly profitable company it once was. MySpace was the place to be online, before a new owner covered the site with ads, and drove almost everyone to Facebook. Circuit City was a huge company, but dropped some of their best-selling products and fired all their best employees, because they were making too much money. The result was bankruptcy. Enron was once the biggest name in the energy business, but unethical, illegal, and downright stupid practices doomed them. In short, all of them were done in, by poor management. Hi, my name is Drew Koch. I'm the executive director of the Institute of Certified Professional Managers. I want to welcome you to our Certified Supervisor Professional Certificate specialization. For over 45 years, ICPM has been working to improve management at companies all over the world. We've helped hundreds of companies and thousands of managers. I'm pleased to tell you, none of our customers were involved in any of those epic fails. Unfortunately, they are just a few examples of the thousands of large and small businesses that fail every year. In fact, 20 percent of new businesses fail within two years, and only 25 percent survive as long as 15 years. While there are a lot of reasons businesses fail, one of the biggest ones is poor management. The really shocking thing is that, all too often this happens because managers don't possess basic skills and techniques, that every supervisor and manager should know and use every day. That's where the Certified Supervisors Specialization comes. The purpose of this specialization is to teach you essential skills and knowledge that will help you become an effective supervisor. Knowledge that will help you understand what supervisors do on a daily basis, and how to work effectively with others to achieve organizational success. Real-world interpersonal, technical and conceptual skills that you can apply immediately to become a new supervisor or a better supervisor. By passing the courses in this specialization, you'll become eligible to sit for the ICPM's Certified Supervisor Certification Examination. The Certified Supervisors Certification, is the result of a comprehensive analysis of the management profession, which identified the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are required for competence supervision. Certification means more than just passing a course. Certifications are scientifically designed to the highest standards of practice, to objectively assess whether individuals truly have what it takes to perform a job efficiently and effectively. Certified Supervisors Certification provides unbiased, independent evidence, and validation that you have what it takes to be a competent supervisor in any organization. Just as importantly, there are no prerequisites to qualify for this specialization. All you need is the desire to learn, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a few years of work experience. In seeking Certification from ICPM, you will be in good company. Thousands of managers have been certified by ICPM, and our certifications are recognized all over the world. Why should you trust ICPM Certification? Because it works. According to a 2017 study, over 97 percent of newly certified individuals use what they learned from getting Certified. 73 percent use it often or very often. 81 percent of newly Certified individuals say there are better at their jobs than before getting Certified. We think these are some pretty serious indicators that we make a real difference in people's lives. There are three required courses in this specialization. Modern supervisors skills, planning and organizing for supervisors, and leadership motivation and organizational control. Each course takes four or five weeks to complete, with about two to three hours of work each week.
